Your Team

We are growing our Inside Sales team in Des Moines. Inside Sales Reps take inbound calls from 46 different states and help potential members interested in our complete line of insurance products!

We are here to earn the trust and business of prospective members and to help drive the growth of Nationwide.

Reporting Relationships: You report to the Inside Sales Leader; you have no direct reports.

Job Summary

A typical day in the life of an Inside Sales Rep:

+ Answering calls/emails from prospects - and scheduling follow-ups as needed

+ No cold calling! Forget the hassle and frustration of prospecting

+ Explaining products and coverages - so that you can recommend the best solutions

+ Learning about sales techniques, products, market conditions and competitors

+ Completing ratings, quotes, and coverage bindings

+ Writing quality risk policies by using underwriting, classification, rating plan, tier, and selection standards knowledge

+ Staying in-the-know about individual and team goals

+ Picking up other tasks as needed

Compensation & Benefits

Our top 20% performers are earning $65,000+ in base and commission. Other benefits include:

Training & Work Schedule

Your career at Nationwide begins on 8/13/18 with our paid license preparation program and license obtainment. You will then complete an award-winning 11-week training program that is designed to set you up for success and confidence in your new role. Your training schedule will be Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:30pm followed by a regular work schedule of Monday- Friday including evening hours.

Job Conditions

A fun contact center environment where extended hours of sitting and typing at your PC, complete with dual monitors and headset, are the norm. Occasional deadlines and prospective member needs may warrant the need for schedule flexibility and overtime. On the odd occasion, you may have to lift something more than 20 pounds.

JOB SUMMARY: Under direct supervision, responsible for the sale of new multi line property/casualty insurance business via direct (inbound and/or outbound) telephone or internet contact with prospective customers in respective zone. Provides counseling regarding insurance needs and product availability. Provides quotes, determines eligibility, and binds coverage after collecting all related underwriting data and information. Performs outbound calls and follow-up work as required to close the sale. Specializes in personal line

s (auto, home, boats, motorcycles, RV, umbrellas, flood) of business.

Note: This job includes a multiple week training period where the associate is expected to achieve successful completion of training and assigned sales and quality standards.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Direct Sales Supervisor.


+ Handles incoming calls/emails from prospective personal lines customers for multiple lines of property/casualty business according to best practices. Performs outbound calls and follow-up work to close the sale.

+ Writes quality risk policies based on underwriting requirements; makes decisions by interpreting and using appropriate classification systems, rating plans, tiers, and selection standards; utilizes training and sales techniques to close the sale.

+ Answers questions, provides explanations, and makes recommendations to applicants regarding appropriate coverage for auto and/or property policies, limits, deductibles; considers customer needs as well as company guidelines. Determines and enters rating information into systems; provides quotation, and binds coverage within prescribed limits.

+ Completes necessary applications and forms; issues conditional contact/binder within authority. Follows up for necessary documents and payments in order to close the sale.

+ Assists and contributes to the team's current quotas/goals by meeting individual quotas/goals, as well as unit/team goals.

+ Maintains current understanding and proficiency in sales techniques and product offerings, keeps up to date with market conditions and competitors, and systems enhancements. Cross-trains on other products and lines of business.

+ Performs all other duties as assigned.


Education: High school diploma or equivalent; undergraduate studies preferred. Continuing education as required by state(s). Prefer participation in professional insurance coursework.

Certifications/Designations: State licensing as required for property/casualty products. Continuing education as required by state(s). Associates must obtain the required state licenses within the time period designated by the business unit. If an associate fails or is unable to obtain required licenses/registrations within the time period designated by the business unit, the associate will be ineligible to continue in the position.

Experience: Typically two years related work experience in sales and customer service. Prefer experience in auto and/or homeowners insurance. Prefer exposure to multiple product property/casualty insurance telemarketing in call center environment.

Knowledge: Knowledge of sales techniques, property/casualty insurance products, insurance processing systems and procedures, best practices, state regulations and customer service practices.

Skills/Competencies: Possesses strong verbal and interpersonal skills to communicate technical insurance information to prospective customers and influence prospective customers to select Nationwide products. Ability to operate personal computer hardware/software in a WINDOWS environment.

Overtime Eligibility: Eligible (non-exempt)

Working Conditions: Requires the ability and availability to work in a call center environment including extended periods of sitting at a personal computer, use of a headset, non-standard work hours/shifts in a 24/7 environment including shifts, weekends and overtime as assigned..
